A few weeks have gone by, and my truck still sits. I replaced the radiator, got new batteries and tried to run the engine for a while to get air out of the coolant. But, air was getting into the fuel line and caused it to die seconds after it was running. I got the fuel line replaced where the air was getting in, I hope, but after trying to start it so much, the starter has gone out and now just clicks. So, I get to add a starter to the to-do list. And I really hate putting starters in. Oh well, the sooner I fix it the better. Then I'll just have to concentrate on getting new tires ASAP. So, that's the latest update as of July 26th, 2011.
So, until the next post, God Bless, keep the rubber side down, and get to wrenchin'! I hope my posts can be an inspiration to all who read them. John, "Pop"
Welcome to Pop's Garage!
Pop's Garage, not a real place, so don't look for it in the Yellow Pages, lol. Actually, my wife has called me "Poppa" since before we got married, and I thought it would be a good name for a garage if I were to ever open one. So I'm using it here.
On to the purpose of this blog. I love pretty much anything to do with cars. Mostly old muscle cars, classic trucks, mini trucks, diesel trucks, hot rods and some sport compacts. Some times, I either get to working on a project, or have ideas for one and I like to share the info with others. There are also times I am working on a car for someone and I need to complain about the engineers bad ideas, or rave about the good ones. So this is my place to do that.
A little background on me and my automotive experience. I have been driving since 1992, when I turned 16. I have worked in the automotive industry in some way since 1994, off and on, either selling parts, delivering parts, installing parts or making parts. I have been in to building custom cars for just as long. I have built about 10 cars of my own and helped my friends on dozens more in the past. I have been in 5 car clubs since I was 16, and president of 3 of those 5. The club names were Syndicate (Dayton, OH), Furious Stylez (president), Crossroads Customs, 0-60 of Dayton (President), and Positive Perception (President, current club my wife and I have been trying to start since '08).
So that's all about me. Later I'll post about some past, present and future projects. C-ya!

Project Locomotion: Phase 1 - Power Train - Update
Well, it's official. I now have my truck back!!! But, not without any issues that I need to take care of, as usual. It looks like my batteries are toast and won't hold a charge, 2 tires are either splitting or leaking air, and my radiator had some green goo in the bottom and has a leak. The good thing is though the engine runs, and everything related to it is brand new, no miles and should now outlast the body, in theory. I might try to get some of these issues resolved tomorrow after my doctors appointment.
I can't wait to drive the beast now. Next on the list will be suspension work. But that probably wont happen until we move and tax time 2012.
So, until the next post, God Bless, keep the rubber side down, and get to wrenchin'! I hope my posts can be an inspiration to all who read them. John, "Pop"

Project Locomotion: Phase 1 - Power Train - Update
Well, all this rain we had put a hold on getting my truck out of the barn, but today it finally happened. The engine has been ready for weeks now. So, it will finally get put in the truck over the next week or so, hopefully. I should have taken pictures as it was being pulled out and towed off, but it started raining in the middle of it all, lol.

Project Locomotion: Phase 1 - Power Train - Update
The engine has been prepped and ready, but since we are low on funds, it hasn't made it to my truck yet. And I'm not really sure when that will happen. Poor mileage in the Suburban is killing me. From empty it costs me over $140 each fill up. That's over $200 every 2 weeks, or about a 1/3 of my check some weeks, lol.

Project Locomotion: Phase 1 - Power Train - Update
OK, it's March 14th and my truck is still in the barn, lol. The guy who is helping with the 6.5 swap got hurt at work, so I'm waiting until he's ready. What's going to happen is we are going to use the 6.5 in a N/A form. The engine is a 2000 Humvee powerplant, built as a N/A motor, and I believe having about 300HP as it sits. He's going to change the heads from the Humvee style to a standard truck version because of the angle of the exhaust side. Also, we will be using the Humvee intake and exhaust manifolds. It's projected to get at least 27MPG. But, we might be able to tune it to get better than 30MPG.
I've also been kicking around the idea of instead of a body dragger, go with a pro-touring suspension set-up. More on that as I do some other research.

Well, tax time is around the corner and the C10 project will be under way soon. I'm posting this just to let you know a step-by-step project log will be posted as things progress. Right now I'm getting parts sources lined up so that when i start I wont have too much down time between steps. So keep checking back and follow along as I get my C10 back on the road.
